Founded in 1866, University of Kansas is very well-regarded public university. Located in the city of Lawrence an hour away from Kansas City, it is the perfect setting for study, relaxation and entertainment. Kansas University is one of the top 55 public universities in the United States, according to the US News & World Report. More than 28 000 students from 100 different countries live there.

On top of its excellent programmes, the school maintains many partnerships with international corporations such as Ford, Microsoft, Samsung, Disney and Coca-cola. As a result, there are many opportunities for internships.

In terms of extra-curricular activities, the university has 600 sporting, political, religious and cultural clubs and societies. Joining one of these is the best way to fully join in with student life and meet local students.


The University of Kansas is a member of Shorelight : a group of universities committed to offering an exceptional student experience for internationals arriving in the United States. Students on this programme have the ability to change their specialty at any moment, and they are assigned to small class sizes for a truly personalized learning exerience. They also receive 24/7 linguistic support. The aim of this programme is to facilitate the students transition to an american university. For the first two or three semestres, these students follow lessons with academic support allowing them to earn university credits. They also participate in programs that allow them to familiarise themselves with local culture.


Courses and Specialties : business and engineering

University of Kansas has thirteen faculties and more than 200 programmes. They are well-known for their business programmes that are the 63rd best in the country according to U.S News and World Report. The university is also highy regarded for its engineering programmes, particularly in petroleum engineering.

The academic resources at the University of Kansas are abundant : the librarys book collection is one of the best in the country. Alumni include Vernon L.Smith, Nobel Prize in economics (2002) ; Juan Manuel Santos, Colombian president and Nobel Peace Prize (2016) ; and Linda Zarda Cook, ex chief executive officer of Shell Canada.


Joining the University of Kansas

To join the University of Kansas via the Shorelight programme, students must hold a 11/20 average on the baccalaureat, as well as a minimum IELTS test score of 5.5.

A years tuition at the university costs aroun $28 000 per year, depending on the programme. For accommodation, expect $6500 to $10 200 per year depending on the type of housing.


Living and studying in Lawrence

The town of Lawrence is 40 kilometers east of Kansas City. Its a very pleasant city to live in ; Forbes magazine places it in the top 5 small towns to start a company or build a career. Lawrence has a thriving night and cultural scene : excellent restaurants, concert halls and art galleries. The town is also very green : the river Kaw runs through it and lake Clinton borders it to the south. It also has a multitude of parks.
