However, for this chosen pathway, one of the biggest obstacles for european students, is generally the cost. Diablo Valley College (DVC) is one of three publicly supported two-year community colleges in the Contra Costa Community College District. Between its two campuses, DVC serves more than 22,000 student...
Founded in 1949, Diablo Valley College (or DVC) offers short technical and general training courses. Each year, more than 20,000 students – both American and International – take courses that will lead them either to a BTS or DUT-type technical diploma or to a DEUG-type diploma. This will therefore enable them to join a third year of a Bachelor’s degree in a more elite school. DVC has established agreements with a number of high-end Californian institutions and is one of the region’s best colleges in terms of university transfers. The cost of schooling is $ 7,200 USD per year, far from the $ 15,000 or $ 30,000 that is sometimes demanded by the forerunners of American higher education!
Community colleges are renowned for offering students quality teaching with a low teacher-student ratio. The great follow-up would therefore explain the rapid progress of the students. DVC does not stray away from this rule. It’s 2 year programmes (the famous Associate’s Degrees) are as interesting as they are varied: decorative arts and applied arts, humanities and biology, business, english, kinesiology, engineering, social sciences, computer science and technology … Whether you want to become specialised in a particular area and launch yourself into the professional world with your Associate degree, or you want a smooth transition into university studies, thanks to an extensive framework, you’ll have no problem finding the right path for you at Diablo Valley!
European students often dream of studying in California. Between the sun, beaches, and temperatures that are very much above zero, it is quite easy to understand why young bachelors want to start their higher education in the Golden State. The two campuses of Diablo Valley College are located in Pleasant Hill and San Ramon, in the surrounding areas of San Francisco you can also find Los Angeles, San Jose, Sacramento, and Yosemite National Park, all only a few hours drive away. International students have access to a wide range of accommodation such as fully-equipped residences, shared apartments, or host families. What’s more, at the end of your class-filled day, it is up to you what you want to do! Go to the onsite gym, go for a walk around Briones Regional Park, or if you’d like, go for a dip in the sea, or in one of the lakes just around the corner…
Approximately 2000 international students are accepted each year to Diablo Valley College. There are usually two starting dates: in September and January. In order to join DVC, Study Experience invites you to start your application process at least 6 months before the start date of the school that you are interested in. You will need to take an English exam, such as IELTS or the TOEFL, and provide your certified and translated transcripts and diplomas, in addition to letters of recommendation, a CV and a letter of motivation.
If you’re itching to become a part of Uncle Sam’s homeland, but the prices of most local establishments are prohibitive, Study Experience invites you to take a glance at Diablo Valley College. It’s short 2 year programmes will allow you to obtain the equivalent of a BTS or a DEUG, in an environment that promotes learning. You can then start to integrate yourself into the world of work, or continue your studies by completing the 3rd year of a bachelor degree, using your Associate Degree.
