Ravensbourne University London has a strong track record in graduate employability and business creation. The community consists of approximately 2,400 students, who work very closely with the highly skilled staff base, many of whom are experts still working actively in industry.
The modern and open-plan university building is a state-of-the-art facility, built for collaboration and creative work. It consists of a variety of work spaces, including social and quiet areas, a cafe, high-tech creative suites, technology and design studios, as well as free Wi-Fi throughout. In addition, it contains two floors of the latest 2D and 3D printing technology and research & development spaces. Ravensbourne works with a number of accommodation providers to offer students a home whilst studying. Depending on their course level, these include university halls, apartments, studios, cluster flats, host families and even an international student’s building.
Ravensbourne is located by the famous O2 music arena, placing the university in a fantastic location for students. It is located on the Greenwich digital peninsula, London’s newest digital community and close to Tech City, the capital’s fast-growing media and technology hub. As a learner, students are eligible for discounts at a number of bars, cafes and restaurants in the area. The university frequently showcases its student’s talents by hosting shows, galleries and a range of other events, meaning there is plenty for students to get involved in at the university outside of their classes.
The Design School offers both undergraduate and postgraduates programmes of study, covering a multitude of design specialisations within the three following departments: architecture, fashion and design practice.
The Department of Architecture equips students with the knowledge and skills appropriate to a range of career outcomes in the design of the environment: interior design, landscape or architecture. They are encouraged to develop individual creative ability as well as obtain a high level of technical skill to best prepare them for the world of work following graduation.
The Department of Fashion is internationally renowned, award winning and holds a strong reputation within the fashion industry. It provides students with excellent industry placement to help boost work experience, skills and knowledge of their chosen field. The department is ranked 20th in the world and 6th in the UK for its fashion courses according to fashionista.com. Professionals within the industry are often invited to speak at the university to share their experience and knowledge with the students.
The Department of Design Practice aims to develop students’ professional skill, knowledge and experience to help them become creative thinkers, dynamically disciplined and adaptable within the industry. Students are taught how to creatively use technology and encouraged to participate in competitions and placements to develop their skill base.
Media students at Ravensbourne gain experience in creative digital medial making, critical analysis and reflection, alongside entrepreneurialism. They are taught and guided by a staff base which consists of practitioners, industry partners, researchers and scholars, whilst working within a unique multidisciplinary environment dedicated to innovation and experimentation.
The Media Works Department specialises in the provision of professional and constructional competence in production and broadcast. Students are taught core craft skills as well as newer broadcast technologies.
They study in an environment that is equipped with professional digital film standards and mirrors the integrated workplace in which film, digital media and broadcast professionals work. Students are exposed to the industry with the help of industry practitioners, staff and visiting lecturers, as well as workshops, visits to productions and industrial placements.
The Media Lab Department specialises in the teaching of content creation, both commercial and experimental. Demand for content is growing, from film to television, advertising and gaming. This department provides students with a unique combination of creative and technical skills to give them a competitive edge following graduation. All degree programmes are designed to equip graduates with these skills so that they are able to work independently and adapt to a constantly evolving industry.
You will need to have completed high school (for Undergraduate courses) or a Bachelor degree (for Masters courses). Different courses have different prerequisite grades, but you will systematically need to prove your English level by sitting an IELTS test :

Ravensbourne also offers pre-sessional language courses to improve students’ level of English ahead of their university course.
For many courses, it is likely that you will also need to submit a portfolio in order to showcase your talent !
