Courses at Hartpury University are designed to suit different learning styles and abilities of students. Hartpury believes in helping students take control of their career development right from their very first day. The experienced Innovation, Careers and Enterprise Centre team is available to give advice, guidance, professional work and skill-based courses as well as placement support. Students are able to take advantage of the college’s partnerships and networks within the industries they study to find work placements and gain real world experience.


Life at Hartpury University

At Hartpury, students have access to a host of excellent facilities and relaxation spots including cafes, restaurants and student common spaces. The Student’s Union ensures that there is a wide range of clubs, recreational sports and entertainment on offer all year round. The events team hosts a range of activities throughout the year including quizzes, movie nights, theme nights as well as live music and DJ events. Students also have access to a support network of personal tutors as well as a highly dedicated and available staff base.

With Gloucester and Cheltenham on the university’s doorstep, there is plenty for students to do off campus. The area offers a vibrant nightlife, over 45 music and arts festivals each year, big sports events, Cheltenham Gold Cup horse races and a whole host of outdoor activities. There are also a number of great cafes, restaurants, bars and shops in nearby town centres.


Degree Programmes and Specialisations 

Equestrian Studies 

Hartpury is the world’s largest equestrian university, offering study programmes in equine sporting excellence, business management, science and horse care. All courses are practical in nature and offer work experience both on and off-campus. Students have the opportunity to take up commercial and marketing roles at top riding centres and yards as well as assisting staff in their work at therapy centres. The courses provide everything from an introduction to horse care and riding, right through to a more in-depth knowledge of horse management, business, science and riding.

Hartpury University’s campus provides world-class equine facilities including horse riding simulators, a performance centre for riders, a commercial yard, equine therapy centres, stables and paddocks. The University also hosts equine competitions, such as the Hartpury International Festival of Dressage and the Hartpury Show Jumping Spectacular, attracting competitors, sponsors and spectators form across the globe. These are great events at which students can network, form valuable industry connections or even showcase their talent as an athlete.



At Hartpury, students can choose from four different agricultural areas  of study; agriculture, farm mechanisation, countryside Management (Game keeping) and Agricultural Engineering Land-based Technology. Each course is designed with specific learning outcomes and employment pathways.

Specialist staff support and develop students’ skills in line with the highest quality standards whether working with livestock, crops, technology or machinery on the campus’ very own commercial farm. 

Hartpury produce is sold to Muller, Sainsbury’s and Glencore, so students will be prepared to apply their knowledge and skills across the supply chain. As part of the new £2 million Agri-Tech Centre, students will experience the latest smart farming technologies and work alongside Gloucestershire’s farming professionals in order to boost local agricultural productivity. They will also undertake an industry placement to improve their skill-based knowledge and employability upon graduating.



Hartpury is a leading sports college in the UK, with millions of pounds recently invested into its facilities to provide the highest quality teaching to its students. The university offers some of the UK’s most advanced sports technology including an anti-gravity treadmill, altitude chamber and high-tech 3D tracking cameras.

Students will also have access to a professional rugby and football pitches, a golf course, a shooting range and a large multi-sports hall. Programmes on offer cover a variety of specialisations including physical education, outdoor activities, rugby, golf, football sports science and exercise nutrition.

All of these degree programmes provide a solid understanding and knowledge of the sports industry, whether it’s fitness, therapy or coaching. In addition to their qualifications, sports students obtain real world experience through practical work experience that not only builds their skill-set and boosts employability, but also benefits the local community. Hartpury has produced more than 150 sporting internationals in the last 10 years, many of whom have participated in Rugby World Cups and the Olympics.
