The greatest university in New Zealand, in the heart of Auckland

This award-winning university offers many programs including over 130 master’s degrees and PhDs across eight departments: Arts, Business, Creative Industries, Social Sciences and Education, Engineering, Law, Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences. It is one of the largest universities in New Zealand and also the most well-rounded in terms of teachings. The university also has two outstanding research institutes. Thanks to a new program of the New Zealand government, international PhD students pay the same tuition fees as domestic students (tuition fees for international students are usually higher).

The university welcomes 42,000 students among whom 6,000 are internationals coming from 110 different countries. The University of Auckland has the largest concentration of researchers in the entire country. This allows all students — even at an undergraduate level — to benefit from first-class teachings.

Through its international office, the University of Auckland offers specialized support to its international students. The staff assists them in their administrative procedures, such as visa renewal, and advisors help them adapting to their new lifestyle. Moreover, the international office organizes socials and activities for students to discover the city and its surroundings.

The University of Auckland is a surprising mix of historical buildings and modern facilities. Its infrastructures are numerous and respond to all the students’ needs. To facilitate their learning, the school offers no less than 12 libraries, lecture theatres that can contain up to 600 people, and classrooms equipped with the latest technology. When it comes to leisure and well being, the University of Auckland does not disappoint either. Students have access to a sports center and a gym, a theatre, art galleries, and two cultural centers. Finally, the university has two career centers to advise students on their higher studies and career options.

These programs are: development studies, ranking 23d; accounting and finance, ranking 26th; education and learning sciences, ranking 26th; psychology, ranking 28th; law, ranking 33rd; linguistics, ranking 33rd; English and literature, ranking 33rd; Civil engineering, ranking 43rd; IT and computer sciences, ranking 44th; geography, ranking 44th; architecture, ranking 45th; business and management, ranking 46th; sociology, ranking 49th.

Studies at the undergraduate level cost between 16,700€ and 31,500€ per year depending on the course chosen. The most expensive are usually medical science courses. As a guide, undergraduate degrees in law, business and IT cost 19,600€ per year. Like in all English-speaking universities, scholarships are available for international students.

English requirements for undergraduate studies are as follow: 6.0 or higher for the IELTS, 80 or higher for the TOEFL (Internet-based) or 550 or higher for the paper-based exam.
