With various campuses, including two main ones in new Westminster and Coquitlam, in the suburbs of Vancouver, Douglas College welcomes 14,000 students each year, of whom 10% are foreign. The school mainly offers undergraduate degree programs, with the aim to help students obtaining a job shortly after graduation. Programs are fairly affordable, with tuition fees being between 13,000 and C$15,500 per year.
Programs offered at Douglas college can be divided into three categories: traditional programs, vocational programs, and pathway programs. In the first category, students get to choose among a large range of courses, from sciences to languages, humanities and social sciences to arts and technology. In the second category are applied programs in commerce, psychology, sports coaching and physical education, health sciences and family & community studies. Finally, the last category are short courses acting as springboards to prestigious universities such as Simon Fraser University or the University of British Columbia.
Vancouver is a lively and pleasant city, with a laid-back atmosphere that is typical of the American West Coast. There are many beaches, parks, and outdoor spaces. The city is also home to many important sports team such as the Canucks, the Giants, the BC Lions, the Whitecaps, and the Canadians. Vancouver hosts many cultural events throughout the year, including the Push Festival and their Vancouver Francophone Festival.
The admission process for Douglas College is fairly simple. French students must provide a translated Baccalaureate transcript, and a proof of English proficiency through an official English exam such as the IELTS. In order to join an undergraduate program, the minimum required score for this exam is 6.5. Students who do not meet the English requirements can still join Douglas College in one of the preparation programs lasting between one and two semesters. Semesters start in September, January, and in May. Study Experience advises interested students to start their application between four and six months in advance in order to gather all the necessary documents and to take their English exams in time.
