Well known for its prestigious business programs in finance, accounting, and actuarial studies, Macquarie is also a leader in many other academic fields including science, engineering and linguistics. 10 of our subject disciplines are ranked in the world’s top 100 in the QS World University Rankings by subjects in 2018 (Linguistics (top 50), Accounting and Finance, Communication and Media, Development Studies, Earth and Marine Science, Education, English Language and Literature, Geography, Philosophy, Literature). Our MBA was ranked in the top 50 in the world, and number 1 in Australia by The Economist magazine “Which MBA?” Ranking, 2017.

Employers world-wide appreciate Macquarie’s practical approach to learning, which gives the students real-world skills for the workforce. Internships with Australian and international companies are encouraged, either through course related internships for postgraduate students, or Professional and Community Engagement unit which encourages undergraduates to undertake internships or cultural experiences local and internationally. Students can also put their global skills into practice via the award winning Global Leadership Programme (GLP) (IIE Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education 2017). Students taking part in the GLP are allowed to study, volunteer and participate in activities overseas and in Australia. It is the only extra-curricular activity formally recognised on the official Macquarie University Academic Transcript.

Student Life at Macquarie

Macquarie lies 15 km from Sydney Harbour and has its own train station on campus that connects directly to the CBD. The campus consists of 126 hectares of parkland in the middle of Australia’s largest high-tech business precinct (home to over 300 companies, giving our students access to job opportunities and networking). Over A$1billion has been invested in University facilities over recent years. Our students enjoy world-class facilities such as a cutting edge library, a private hospital, great sports fields, a gym and an Olympic sized swimming pool. The university provides safe, quality accommodation for all students on and off campus. You can live in fully catered residence or self-catered student housing with access to a range of facilities and close to campus.


How to apply

Like many Australian Universities, Macquarie has two entry dates; the first semester begins at the end of February, and the second semester is the end of July.

It is recommended that you submit your application at least 2 to 3 months before the start date. Please note that the English Language requirement for most courses is 6.5 in IELTS, although some courses have a higher requirement. If you don’t meet the English requirement we can offer you packages in combination with our English Language Centre, and if you don’t meet the academic requirement Macquarie University offers a pathway into most degrees through MUIC (Macquarie University International College.
