Studying in Melbourne

La Trobe University was founded with the idea to combine social engagement with academic excellence. A gamble that paid off for this diverse and cosmopolitan university that celebrates its 50th birthday in 2017. These values are made evident through the tolerance and camaraderie cultivated throughout its campuses.

The Melbourne campus is one of the most aesthatistcally pleasing in the country, but also very modern. The university recently invested hundreds of millions of australian dollars into the renovation and construction of innovative infrastructure ; all the while being mindful of the environmental impact. La Trobe University is part of the top 1% most international universities in the world: out of 36 000 students over 8000 comme from abroad, representing 90 different countries. But that’s not all ! La Trobe University also ranks in the top 100 best universities that are under 50 years old. The university is particularly famous for its research in social sciences and biology.

Courses and specialties : a specialist in science


On top of its reputation in biology and social sciences, La Trobe is the third best university in the country in mathematics and computer science. There are more than 200 courses, including 80 bachelors and more than 120 masters and doctorates. In 2015, it was the only university in Australia to reach world class status in its veterinary and agricultural programmes (Excellence in Research for Australia Report).

La Trobe University has established many partnerships with industry sectors relevant to the courses on offer. The university wishes to ensure its students assimilate relevant competencies that are valued by employers. The partners also allow them to guarantee internships and professional experience for students.

The university offers courses in seven areas : Business and commerce ; Health Sciences ; IT and engineering ; Sciences ; Agriculture and environmental sciences ; Arts and social sciences ; and Law.

To apply to La Trobe University, a student must have a baccalaureat with a 12/20 average, as well as a 6.0 score on the IELTS. Don’t panic if you don’t fulfill these requirements, La Trobe University also offer foundation year programmes that combine intensive english classes with academic classes to allow a student to join the university upon completion.

On average, tuition fees are 27 000 australian dollars (around 19 000 euros) per year. There are numerous full or partial scholarships for international students.
