Semester in China: shift up a gear

Founded in 1905, Fudan University is a renowned public university. Today, it counts 44,300 students. The university organizes over 200 public talks each year, as well as dozens of sports competitions and over one hundred arts exhibitions. The student union is very active: there are about 350 student societies which organize over 500 socials each year.

The university has its own newspaper, and numerous student publications, but also its own radio broadcast and TV channel. Last but not least, it boasts several libraries and countless sports facilities.

 

Programs and specialties

The Contemporary Chinese Studies Program is a unique course offered by the School of Social Development and Public Policy. It lasts one semester and is directed at students who hold an undergraduate degree or who are currently in their last year of undergraduate studies in the following subjects: international commerce, Asian studies, social and political studies, and international relations.

In this program, students choose among a selection of 15 academic modules. They also have the option of to carry out an internship within a local company or organization. Those taking business and marketing modules will also have classes on Chinese work etiquette and on local economy. Students also get to visit local companies during fieldwork.

Modules are taught in English but students take Chinese language classes in parallel. To progress quickly, they are divided into groups according to level.

 

Living and studying in Shanghai

Shanghai is a surprising mix of tradition and modernity. More and more popular among international students, it is a city in full economic boom, also enjoying a cultural renaissance.

International students stay at the Tohee International Student Village, just a few minutes away from campus. Apartments are divided into two to three bedrooms with shared bathrooms, living room, kitchen and balcony. Each apartment has Wi-Fi, television, a washing machine and refrigerator.

 

Join Fudan University

Students do not need to speak Chinese to apply to the Contemporary Chinese Studies Program but they do need to have a good command of English. Moreover, candidates must be motivated and show a real interest for China.

Tuition fees amount to 7,500€. This includes material, registration fees, fieldworks, transfer service from and to the airport, orientation sessions, and application fees for the internship. Accommodation costs between 1,200€ and 1,760€ depending on the apartment and the length of stay. In total, students should plan to spend between 8,700€ and 9,260€ all included for one semester of studies at Fudan University.
